MagnaCut is the first steel in years that changed the conversation: it holds an edge like a high-end tool steel, resists rust like a true stainless and sharpens without a fight. Benchmade moved much of its line to it; Spyderco runs it on the Para Military 2 and others. If a knife lives in a sweaty pocket, near water or in a kitchen, this is the steel to pay for.
Questions we get at the counter
- Is MagnaCut worth the extra money over S30V or S45VN?
- If the knife will see moisture, yes: it will not spot or pit the way S30V can, and it holds an edge longer. For a dry-pocket office knife, S45VN is nearly as good for less.
- Is MagnaCut hard to sharpen?
- No. It is easier than M390 or S90V and about like S35VN. Diamond or ceramic stones make it quick; we sharpen it in-house.
