It takes a firefighter’s real-world experience to design a rescue knife this capable, and Rick Hinderer delivered. Built with the needs of first responders in mind, this feature-packed knife incorporates the essential tools required in high-pressure situations, all while remaining easy to operate even with bulky turnout gloves. The design emphasizes durability and usability, with larger, more robust components and mechanisms throughout. The high-visibility red Zytel handle ensures it’s easy to locate, while dual steel liners provide added strength and reliability. A sturdy pocket clip offers multiple carry options for quick access. A standout feature is the fold-out safety hook cutter, positioned at the top of the handle for instant deployment. It’s specifically designed to slice through webbing, clothing, or seatbelts safely, with the cutting edge recessed to prevent accidental injury during rescues. The handle also includes a built-in glass breaker and a practical slot for opening oxygen tank valves, critical tools when seconds matter. The 3.5" blade is built for control and safety, featuring a mostly serrated edge for aggressive cutting, with a blunt tip to help avoid unintended harm. Oversized thumb controls make one-handed opening easy, even with gloves, and a simple pull-back mechanism allows for smooth and safe closing of the liner lock. This is more than just a knife. It’s a purpose-built rescue tool designed to perform when it matters most.
