A genuine piece of American WWII history. In 1943 the U.S. Army adopted the 10" M1 bayonet for the M1 Garand, replacing the long 16" M1905 with a handier blade for the fighting in Europe and the Pacific. This example was made by Utica Cutlery Co. of Utica, New York, one of the wartime contractors that produced bayonets for the Garand. The ricasso is stamped "U.C." over "U.S." flanking the Ordnance Department flaming bomb. The bayonet has the classic black ribbed grips, a steel crossguard with muzzle ring, and a pommel with its locking catch. It comes in a matching-era M7 scabbard with an OD green body and a steel throat marked "U.S." over the flaming bomb, complete with its belt hook. The bayonet shows honest service wear. Much of the original finish is worn from the blade, there is light surface rust on the scabbard throat, and the grips are solid. It's a great display piece for a Garand collector or anyone interested in WWII militaria. - Model: U.S. M1 bayonet for the M1 Garand - Maker: Utica Cutlery Co.
