This is an antique Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. single-blade pocket knife with the OVB hallmark stamped on its long bolster and pattern number 061 on the blade. OVB, short for "Our Very Best," was the private hallmark of Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett of Chicago, one of the largest hardware houses in America. The company put the OVB mark only on goods it was willing to stand behind as its finest. This one has smooth bone handles aged to a rich honey and amber, a long polished bolster, and a slender carbon steel clip blade with the honest patina of age. OVB-marked knives are prized by collectors, and this is a genuine piece of American hardware and cutlery history. Maker: Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., Chicago.
