This is an antique Hammer Brand Official Boy Scout knife made by the New York Knife Company of Walden, New York. Hammer Brand was the New York Knife Co.'s famous trademark, and the company was one of the earliest makers licensed to produce the official scout knife. This one has deeply jigged brown bone handles with an embossed nickel silver scout shield, nickel silver bolsters, and a bail for a lanyard. It carries the full scout's kit: a master blade, a combination cap lifter and screwdriver, a can opener, and a punch. The New York Knife Co. built knives in Walden from the mid-1800s until the company closed in 1931, and its Hammer Brand scout knives are among the most sought-after pieces in scout knife collecting.
