The 5172 SSP is Case's largest single-blade clasp knife, a hefty folder that fills the hand, dressed in genuine stag with a polished stainless clip point blade wearing a full scroll etch. This one carries the 3-dot tang stamp, dating it to 1977. 1977 was the year of Case's stag Blue Scroll run, and the 5172 SSP was one of the flagship patterns in that lineup. Collectors know the 5172 as one of the most imposing traditional folders Case ever made, and stag examples from this era are getting harder to find every year. The stag on this one is a knockout: rich honey and amber tones with deep, dark bark running down the handle, finished with nickel silver bolsters and the Case oval shield.
