Graef & Schmidt
Only one in the case
A genuine piece of early American cutlery history. Graef & Schmidt was a New York importer that brought German-made pocket knives into the U.S. from the 1880s into the 1950s. This one carries the full GRAEF & SCHMIDT / GERMANY tang stamp, an early marking that collectors generally place before 1923, when the company shifted most of its knives to its "Welkut" brand. This is a classic two-blade equal end pen knife, with a spear point main blade at one end and a pen blade at the other, set in smooth yellow handles with rounded bolsters on both ends and pinned construction. Condition: Honest, used vintage condition. Both blades show patina and pitting from age, with wear on the bolsters, consistent with a knife of this era. Handles are intact. A great addition for collectors of early German imports and American-retailed cutlery. - Brand: Graef & Schmidt (New York importer) - Tang stamp: GRAEF & SCHMIDT / GERMANY - Era: Likely pre-1923 - Pattern: Two-blade equal end pen knife - Blades: Spear point main, pen blade - Blade steel: Carbon steel - Handles: Smooth yellow - Bolsters: Rounded, both ends - Mechanism: Slip joint, nail nick opening - Origin: Germany - Condition: Used vintage, pitting and patina on blades
